Foundation Pottery Wheel Skills-19 Jan -23 Feb 2025
Unlock Your Creativity on the Pottery Wheel!
Course Overview: Dive into the world of wheel made pottery with our Foundation Skills for the Pottery Wheel course, perfect for beginners or those with little experience. Over 6 Sunday afternoon sessions, you'll master the essential techniques to create and decorate wheel-thrown ceramic vessels.
This course is also ideal for those who have done some wheel-work but need a refresher or for those looking to revise their skills.
What You'll Learn:
This course introduces a range of techniques and approaches as there is no single correct way to throw or centre clay on a wheel. In this course you'll find the approach that works for you.
Sessions 1-3: Learn to make (“throw”) cylindrical vessels such as vases, tumblers, containers, and bowls. Session 1 introduces the basic stages of making a basic pot – how to prepare and place a ball of clay on the wheel and prepare it (“centring the clay”) and then how to open up the clay and form a base before pulling up the walls of the pot. Sessions 2 and 3 involve practicing these skills.
Session 4: Discover the art of trimming pots and turning the foot of a pot.
Sessions 5-6: Glaze and decorate your creations from previous sessions.
