Announcements & Happenings

A Beanie-ful Success!
We want to acknowledge that Central Craft’s contribution to the 2025 Beanie Festival was absolutely buzzing, with over 20 diverse workshops held throughout the week — from loom and basket weaving to nuno felting, crochet, eco dyeing and more. It was a joy to see both local legends and visiting talent bring our studios to life with colour, creativity and connection.

A huge thank you to our incredible tutors, tireless volunteers (who staffed the shop and helped run workshops), Central Craft staff, the Beanie Festival crew, and everyone working behind the scenes to make this special event happen. We’re proud to have hosted a vibrant celebration of contemporary craft. Click the heading above to read a more detailed summary.

Farewell to Ellen
After many months of wonderful contribution to Central Craft, Ellen has decided to move on from her role as Admin Officer. We’re incredibly grateful for all the energy, creativity, and care she brought to the position — particularly in supporting our members and bringing fresh ideas to the shop. Ellen’s hard work and dedication will be greatly missed, and we wish her all the very best in her next chapter.

With the admin role now vacant, we’ll be recruiting for the position in the coming weeks — so keep an eye out for the job listing. In the meantime, we’ll be running at reduced capacity, so thanks in advance for your patience with any delays around the shop, craft seller payments, or other admin services.

Director Update
Zoe has now reduced her hours to four days per week (M,T,T,F)
and will be working part of this time remotely. You can continue to reach her via email at: 📧 directors@centralcraft.org.au

Cash Handling in the Shop
The Board of Central Craft made the decision to remove
cash handling from the shop following concerns raised about staff safety and workload. Representatives from the board met with shop volunteers last Friday to discuss this and is committed to finding a solution that better suits those involved. Thank you so much to those who participated in these conversations - we appreciate you so much! Hopefully we can move forward and
find a process that better suits everyone as soon as possible.

Opportunities

Shop Role Opportunity
We’re taking expressions of interest for casual work coordinating the Central Craft shop and assisting with admin. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy — or if you know someone who’d be a great fit — please get in touch ASAP. We’re hoping to have the shop buzzing again in time for Desert Mob!
