What the Course Covers

The course begins with an introduction to the core concepts and processes involved in leadlighting, including an overview of both traditional and contemporary approaches to the medium. Participants will be introduced to a range of examples that demonstrate how leadlighting techniques can be applied in less conventional and more sculptural ways.

Participants will then develop and refine their technical skills through the making of smaller two-dimensional works, before progressing towards a more complex, larger 2D piece and a small abstract three-dimensional glass form. The course emphasises experimentation, skill development and confidence with materials, while providing structured guidance throughout.

Facilitator

This course is led by Miles Dunne, a contemporary artist based in Adelaide whose practice spans sculpture, light and performance. Miles’ pathway into leadlighting has been non-traditional, emerging from a fascination with unexpected ways of incorporating light into sculptural works. This experimental approach has led to innovative applications of lead lighting techniques, integrating metal and ceramic components and creating three-dimensional glass forms.

Please note: while Miles Dunne is the primary Facilitator for this course, alternate facilitators may lead some sessions if required.
