When the Rains Come - What the Bones Remember
An exhibition by artists from Engawala Art Centre
Opening: Friday September 19th, 4pm
In the rain event of 2026, six weeks of rain filled the rivers of Central Australia. In Alcoota, one of Australia’s most significant megafauna fossil sites, the artists of Engawala Art Centre heard the ancient crying of the megafauna at dawn and dusk.
When the Rains Come — What the Bones Remember is a multi-form exhibition weaving this testimony together with the eight-million-year fossil record of Alcoota. The exhibition comprises three bodies of work united by a shared symbolic language developed collaboratively by the artists: terracotta wall pieces conceived as monumental body adornment, ceramic sculptures and paintings on canvas which carry the story across country, season, and deep time.
Join us for the opening this Friday September 19th at 4pm. Exhibition runs until September 19th.

Upcoming Workshops & Events
New workshops have been scheduled and added to our website. Get in quick to secure
Wheel Works: Beginner Wheel Throwing (Sept/Oct)
A 6-part introduction to making functional pottery on the wheel and exploring basic glazing, suitable for beginners and those brushing up on their skills. These are offered at two different time slots:
Sundays 1-4pm starting September 27th, or
Wednesdays 5:30-8:30pm starting September 30th.

Watercolours: Painting Landscape with Henry Smith
A 4-part workshop series, focusing on landscape painting in watercolour. Suitable for both beginners and intermediate painters, the series explores essential techniques for capturing atmosphere and place.
Sundays 10am-2pm, starting October 11.

MEMBER'S EXHIBITION
A reminder to all members that you’re invited to enter works in our upcoming Members Exhibition COMMON GROUND.
Entries close: Sunday October 4th, 5pm
All forms and media are welcome, and entries are now open! Head on over to our website to read the T&Cs and download an entry form. Paper copies are also available on the noticeboards in the Studio.
Desert Mob
A reminder that Desert Mob kicks off tomorrow. Come down to the precinct and enjoy the many wonderful things it has to offer over the coming weeks.
Please note that our driveway will be closed tomorrow Thursday Sep 10th from 3pm, to allow for the Desert Mob opening event. The Studio remains open for use, but you will need to park your vehicle elsewhere for this time period.

A note to all Studio users
Recently, the studio door has been found open when no members are present. This is a reminder to all members that you must have a fob with you if you are in the Studio alone or after hours and to always lock the door both when you are inside the building and upon leaving.
If you have an active membership but no fob, please get in touch with office staff to arrange the purchase of one as well as to book an induction to learn how to arm/disarm the building.
Good building security helps to keep our members safe as well as protects the valuable items we have worked so hard to create, and is everyone’s responsibility.
IN OTHER NEWS
Central Craft was pleased to take part in the Heads Up Youth Wellbeing Carnevale in August - a community event supporting the wellbeing, creativity and connection of young people in Mparntwe.
The event provided a welcoming space for young people to enjoy creative activities, connect with local services and spend time together.
Roo-lly Grateful
One of our talented members, Meghann Dotson, has been working hard to perfect her glaze combinations in our ceramics studio. Meghann recently donated some of her beautiful work to the wonderful team at The Kangaroo Sanctuary. Nice one, Meghann!
