TECHNCIAN IN RESIDENCE (TIR)
GB (Graham Beasley) from Arlpwe Art & Culture recently spent 10 days at Central Craft as a Technician in Residence. GB shadowed Mark and learnt about all aspects of running our ceramics studio, from packing the kiln to clay recycling. There are plans for Mark to return the visit to Ali Curung where the art centre is located to help GB revive their ceramics studio.

KILN NEWS
Mark has been firing pretty much continually since April, averaging about six firings a month. After quite a bit of tweaking. We have now had good results across all firing schedules; bisque, high fire, earthenware and mid fire.
After the next bisque, Friday week, our kiln will have some downtime for 3 days while the kiln shelves get some maintenance.
Then, at the end of Sept we have all our kilns booked in for a home visit with the Kiln Dr. One aim is to get the old kiln back up and running for Bisque firings, this would increase our firing capacity.

CLAY RECYCLING
Mark has been hard at work, setting up a reclaiming of waste clays system, and recycling buckets and buckets of clay.
The clays need to be tested first, and the pugmill is due for a work out, but in another four weeks time we hope to have recycled clays available to buy. Members only deal $5 for a 2kg log or 10 kg packs for $25.
