Just Passing Through - Landscapes of Central Australia

A collection of oil paintings by Glenn Edwards

Glenn is a keen bushwalker and the stunning landscapes of Central Australia provide inspiration for his most recent works. Glenn continues to paint in oils using photographs as a starting point. When applying paint Glenn follows the ‘fat over lean’ principle and his work is underpainted in complementary contrasting colours using diluted paint. These colours show through on the final work and can be seen if you look closely at the paintings. After underpainting, tube consistency oil paint is thickly applied using brushes and palette knives. Multiple layers of translucent glaze are then used to finish off his work.

After completing a PhD in Zoology in 1990, Glenn moved to Alice Springs in 1994 to pursue a career as an ecologist with the then Conservation Commission of the Northern Territory. Glenn resumed recreational landscape painting in 2008.

Glenn is a member of the Central Australian Art Society and is a regular entrant in the Society’s premier exhibition- The Advocate Art Award. He won the Places section prize in this exhibition on debut in 2009 with “Hevitree Range”. He again won the Places prize in 2016 with “Just passing through, Hevitree Range” and in 2021 won the Excellence Prize with “Ormiston Pound”. Two other works entered in the Advocate Art Award in 2013 and 2018 were highly commended by the judges. Glenn still works for the Northern Territory government and paints in his spare time.
