Straight Lines and Open Curves - Tuesdays 6 weeks - starts 13 December

Wheel skills development is suitable for beginners or people with some wheel experience. The focus will be on creating cylinder and bowl forms on the wheel using a stoneware clay body. Surface treatments to be covered will include slip, texturing and resist.

Course Structure and Content:

Week 1 & 2– Centering and lifting of clay at the wheel to form straight-sided shapes as the starting point for mugs, jars and vases.

Week 3 & 4 – Centering, opening and lifting clay to form open curved shapes as the starting point for bowls and rounded vessels.

Week 5 & 6 – Turning flat bottomed or footed forms and surface treatment techniques. Demonstration of handles, lugs and sprigs according to interest.
