From the Chair
@ Pam Mills

Exciting times and lots of wonderful art and craft events are happening/being planned.  We’re looking at another year filled with wonderful creative journeys.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • Ceramics workshops continued over the end of 2022 and into early 2023.  There’s a lot of popularity for Ceramics at the moment and also a great appreciation of the excellent facilities for Ceramicists at Central Craft.
  • An amazing group of volunteers conducted a stocktake of the shop – quite a mammoth task.  Special thanks to Karen Montey who led the team with Marilyn, Rita, Staci, Kevron, Betty and Margie all on the job. They collected, counted, noted, counted, recorded and counted again!  Our shop reflects the wonderful diversity and high standard of our members’ work.  The shop reopens in February 1.
  • Central Craft’s 50th anniversary is next year (2024) and while that may seem a long way away, planning is already happening.  If you’d like to be part of the team to plan the celebrations, please don’t hesitate to chat to Lucy.  We’re looking for ideas on themes, promotion, marketing, workshops, visiting and local masterclass leaders, exhibitions, workshops etc etc.  All ideas welcome and the more hands, the merrier.
  • The Management Committee welcomes Karen Montey and Anne Mosey.  Karen is also taking on the role of Treasurer, Anne as Secretary.  We’re delighted to have them join.
  • And whilst on the subject, our next Management Committee meeting is mid February – if you have anything you’d like to raise at this forum, please reach out to Lucy, to me or any of our Committee Members.
That’s all from me for now………
happy creating, exploring, learning, sharing and making. Pam

HAVE YOUR SAY @ Central CrafT

Thank you to everyone who responded to our 2022 survey - this is some of what you said

You said you wanted more workshops especially in ceramics, textiles (slow stitch, repurposing, fibre, eco dye, pattern making and sewing), jewellery, printmaking (screen, fabric), glass (stained, slumped, fused), weaving, wood working, animation and bookbinding. That you wanted more advanced workshops and workshops that develop creativity and not just skills. That we could have a more consistent and varied workshop program and connect more with the school and community sectors. You wanted better inductions to the studio with how to use sessions, like how the glaze room and firing systems work. You would like a better organised volunteer scheme with timely answers to enquiries, a proper welcome, an induction, a list of project / tasks/ areas that need volunteers. You also wanted better communication and member consultation as this is a Member organisation after all.

Wow that is a long list, for a little organisation we sure have a lot going on. Please be patient we are only staffed by two part-time positions and sometimes we struggle to respond as quickly or as well as we would like to. We encourage and take on this feedback from you our valued Members. If you would like to have more of a say in the strategic direction of Central Craft please consider joining our Management Committee - Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Sat April 22 at 12pm.
If you still want to have a say but did't get the chance to fill out the survey, its still live, here is the link again:
