Where is Isla?

Isla has been travelling to Canberra to take part in the National Gallery Youth Council.

"The National Gallery Youth Council is a group of dynamic young creatives aged 15 to 25 years-old whose role is to represent and advocate young people at the National Gallery. Recruited annually from all over Australia, the group meets every four weeks and works with Gallery curators, artists and staff to develop and deliver programs for their peers — onsite, online and on tour."

Did you know that our Isla is also a member of the NT Youth Roundtable.
"The Committee comprises of 18 young people from around the Territory who will be actively involved to provide input on the development of government policies, programs and services. These young people are advocates for the climate, gender diversity, mental health and disabilities and no doubt will achieve incredible results during their time as members of the NT Youth Round Table."

Isla came to Central Craft through a 3 month placement as part of a NXT Gen ARTS grant. “This program provides a practical introduction into running an arts business by learning from established artists and sector professionals,” The next round of NXT Gen Arts Grants are open, so if you or someone you know aged between 18 and 25 would like to apply please contact us at Central Craft.

Congrats Isla we are very proud of all you do nationally, in the Territory and locally to advocate for the arts, young people and our region.

Alana has been learning to sew with Bernice on Wednesdays, she is using a pattern from her late grandmother's collection. Bernice tells us that the pattern is a unique Australian treasure.

"Madame Weigel's paper pattern series was a vital part of life for many women who sewed at home in Australia and New Zealand. Started in 1878, Weigel's patterns spanned nine decades and gathered many devoted followers who needed, and loved, Madame's work."
