In this day long workshop we will explore the process of dyeing fabric with natural dyes.  We will explore preparing fabric for dyeing and using dye materials from the kitchen, home garden and the wider local environment.  There will also be an introduction to the ancient dye indigo,  beloved in many cultures.

The aim is to enjoy this process and to inspire further exploration of the possibilities of natural dyeing. By the end of the workshop, you will have a selection of dyed fabric samples to take home.

Julie Millerick is a very experienced local arts practitioner with decades of experience with natural dyeing and eco-printing.   She is a former art teacher and can often be found at the Alice Springs Sunday Markets with her beautiful eco-printed work.

Kay Smith has been exploring natural dyeing over the past several years as a compliment to her lifelong hand stitching practice for family and domestic applications.

Both work together regularly exploring and extending knowledge of this magical, age old practice.  Both are long term Members of Central Craft.

Materials to bring: One or two small clothing items you would like to dye.

Skill level: Suitable for beginners as well as experienced practitioners
