Opening night Friday 6:30pm 10 September 2021
(following Desert Mob opening)
June Marriott Gallery, Central Craft
Araluen Cultural Precinct, 61 Larapinta Dr, Araluen

Exhibition 10 September - 3 October 2021

The title for our Maruku exhibition refers to the three creative mediums as one family, just as the art itself has been created by our artists families.

Maruku Arts presents artworks created in the last few years that showcase Maruku Artists and the diversity of the media that the artists choose to express the stories and culture that are relevant to the individual families.

Tanya Singer is a very creative and multidimensional artist. She is a very skilled carver, painter, and photographer. Cynthia Burke is an expert in all of the three medias she is working in – painting, Tjanpi and Punu. We will show her incredible carvings. Rene Kulitja is not only one of Maruku’s directors but also an accomplished painter. Her designs travelled all over the world on one of the Qantas planes.

Billy and Lulu Cooley are a well-known carving team. The unique Maruku product - the walka board - is the preferred medium for the couple. However, both are excellent carvers. Billy’s Snakes are sold worldwide and are part of many national and international collections.

The exhibition will feature a range of Maruku artworks from different artists and while we show works in different media, Punu - wood carvings - will be the heart of the show, as it is the heart and the soul of Maruku.
