Beanie Festival Boro Japanese Mending
with Anne Stewart
This timeless technique has been used by the Japanese people for centuries to mend and patch their garments. Nowadays, the worldwide movement of ‘slow stitching’ is based on Boro. I am fascinated by this beautiful art form and I would like to share my journey of discovery with you. In this class you will learn how to make a small bag and how to repurpose your scraps of lovely fabric. I have made bags, a jacket from a man’s shirt and a quilt. I love the idea that there are no rules — only the ones you make yourself. If you are a traveller, Boro is the perfect project to take with you. All your sewing necessities can be carried in one small bag.
But be warned! Boro is addictive and, once start, you may not want to stop!
